Designated as a World Heritage Site

In the 19th century, Baden-Baden was the sophisticated cosmopolitan summer capital of Europe. Nobility and high society, literati, artists and politicians all gathered here. Highlights from this period, such as the theatre, the Kurhaus with its casino and state rooms, the Trinkhalle, Lichtentaler Allee with its pavilions, the Dahlia and Rose Gardens, the Friedrichsbad and the racecourse are all still there, along with many beautiful Belle Epoque buildings. The spa and health resort have been designated a World Heritage Site. There are recent highlights such as the Festspielhaus and the Frieder Burda Museum. So, in the 21st century, the "spa town on the Oos" is still a classy holiday destination with something to suite everyone.

Nature in Baden-Baden

Beautiful all year round

Centuries-old trees from all over the world, including redwoods, make any walk exhilarating. Two rose gardens (with an annual International Rose Novelty Competition), a profusion of dahlias and rhododendrons, crocus carpets - the world-famous Lichtentaler Allee is enchanting in every season. In the immediate vicinity you will discover wild and romantic nature, vineyards and the legendary Black Forest.

Magical places in Baden-Baden

and the miraculous thermal waters

Baden-Baden has many magical and historic places. One of them is the market square at the foot of the New Castle. Here stands the oldest building in the city: the thousand-year-old collegiate church. It is built on the ruins of a Roman spa and thermal streams flow underneath it. The 60-70 degree thermal water makes Mediterranean plants blossom in the castle gardens, and also provides warm relaxing waves in the Caracalla Spa and historic Friedrichsbad.

The legendary Black Forest

Breathtaking views, tradition and wilderness

Baden-Baden nestles in the Oostal valley at the foot of the Black Forest. The legendary Black Forest High Road begins behind the Lichtental Monastery. Experience scenic hiking trails and cross-country skiing routes, waterfalls and ruined monasteries ... and a stretch of reclaimed wilderness.

Tip: travel through Baden-Baden in a horse-drawn carriage

The original summer capital experience

You can go sightseeing on foot or with the "Citybahn&#8221 train. But if you really want to get a feel of the former summer capital of Europe, then the best thing is to hop into one of the vis-à-vis carriages, with two magnificent grey horses and a carriage driver in a top hat and white gloves.
